Membership and Finiteness Problems for Rational Sets of Regular Languages

چکیده
Let Σ be a finite alphabet. A set R of regular languages over Σ is called rational if there exists a finite set E of regular languages over Σ, such that R is a rational subset of the finitely generated semigroup (S, ·) = 〈E〉 with E as the set of generators and language concatenation as a product. We prove that for any rational set R and any regular language R ⊆ Σ∗ it is decidable (1) whether R ∈ R or not, and (2) whether R is finite or not.

Multidimensional fuzzy finite tree automata
This paper introduces the notion of multidimensional fuzzy finite tree automata (MFFTA) and investigates its closure properties from the area of automata and language theory. MFFTA are a superclass of fuzzy tree automata whose behavior is generalized to adapt to multidimensional fuzzy sets. An MFFTA recognizes a multidimensional fuzzy tree language which is a regular tree language so that for e...
متن کاملTREE AUTOMATA BASED ON COMPLETE RESIDUATED LATTICE-VALUED LOGIC: REDUCTION ALGORITHM AND DECISION PROBLEMS
In this paper, at first we define the concepts of response function and accessible states of a complete residuated lattice-valued (for simplicity we write $mathcal{L}$-valued) tree automaton with a threshold $c.$ Then, related to these concepts, we prove some lemmas and theorems that are applied in considering some decision problems such as finiteness-value and emptiness-value of recognizable t...
متن کاملOn the Structure and Complexity of Rational Sets of Regular Languages
In a recent thread of papers, we have introduced FQL, a precise specification language for test coverage, and developed the test case generation engine Fshell for ANSI C. In essence, an FQL test specification amounts to a set of regular languages, each of which has to be matched by at least one test execution. To describe such sets of regular languages, the FQL semantics uses an automata-theore...

We study the classes of languages defined by valence automata with rational target sets (or equivalently, regular valence grammars with rational target sets), where the valence monoid is drawn from the important class of polycyclic monoids. We show that for polycyclic monoids of rank 2 or more, such automata accept exactly the context-free languages. For the polycyclic monoid of rank 1 (that is...
متن کاملOn the Finiteness Property for Rational Matrices
We analyze the periodicity of optimal long products of matrices. A set of matrices is said to have the finiteness property if the maximal rate of growth of long products of matrices taken from the set can be obtained by a periodic product. It was conjectured a decade ago that all finite sets of real matrices have the finiteness property. This conjecture, known as the “finiteness conjecture”, is...
